Born in the United Kingdom, Edmund Edgar was a miniaturist painter and engraver, who worked in watercolour. He was transported to Australia for life in 1826 after being convicted of theft. He was assigned to Augustus Earle, and given his ticket of leave in 1828. He taught drawing in Sydney, and was pardoned in 1844. Edgar's work is represented in the Mitchell Library.
