Nyakul Dawson was born in the late 1930's at Aaran, along the dreaming track of Wati Ngintaka (Goanna Man) in the Western Desert region of Central Australia. He began painting in 2002 and exhibited in the 2002 19th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award in Darwin in 2002 and at the Aboriginal and Pacific Gallery in Sydney in the same year. In June 2006, he travelled to Paris with the Australia Council for the Arts for the opening of the Musee du quai Branly as a representative for Aboriginal Australian art.
