Born in New South Wales in 1945, Rick Everingham studied under Graeme Inson and G.K. Townshend. He was called up for National Service in 1966. He started painting full-time in 1969 and made a study tour to Europe and the United States in 1977. He has won a number of awards, including the American Centenary Prize, Brisbane in 1976.
