Peter Snelgar was born in England in 1941. His father was in Royal Air Force and because of frequent postings lived in many different locations. After finishing school, he attended Swindon College of the Arts then moved to South Australia with his family. Putting his art studies on hold, he worked in the construction industry for about 20 years until a back injury forced his retirement and he rekindled his interest in art. His first art sales were in a local market in 1979 and he held his first solo exhibition at a winery in South Australia and continued with solo and group exhibitions have been held in Sydney, Darwin, Gold Coast and Perth.
