Born in Wales, United Kigdom, Jones-Roberts arrived in Australia in 1949. He attended Haileybury College and Melbourne University but is not known to have had any formal art training. He is a representational painter in oil, acrylic and watercolour and held his first solo show in 1959, followed by numerous shows in Victoria and New South Wales, including Barry Stern Gallery, Sydney, Australian Galleries, Melbourne and La Trobe University Gallery. He was a finalist in the Archibald Prize in 1971.
