Born in Adelaide in 1890, Lisette Kohlhagen studied under Leslie Wilke, Gwen Barringer, Maude Sherwood, Adelaide Perry and George Bell, and then in Melbourne at the George Bell School. She became a foundation member of the Contemporary Art Society in Sydney and exhibited with the Society of Artists. A painter, printmaker and critic, she travelled widely exhibiting throughout Australia and in London. She was a member of the Contemporary Art Society and wrote for the 'Adelaide News'.
We have records of art auction sales by Lisette Kohlhagen from 1978 and in total 110 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 72 (65%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $5,500 for Still Life with Shell sold by GFL Fine Art in May 2006. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Lisette Kohlhagen are held by the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and Queensland Art Gallery.
