Born Vienna 1909, Frederick Halpern studied in Vienna and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. He was well travelled, and visited Egypt in 1926, and journeyed throughout Africa, and Asia, arriving in Australia in the early 1950’s where he worked as a self-employed artist, explorer and writer. He also visited New Zealand, Indonesia, and Thailand. Prix de Rome 1930. A watercolourist and printmaker, he exhibited at the Tate Gallery, London; Salon d'Autumme, Paris and Gumps Galleries, San Francisco. Between 1978 and 1991 he wrote and had published four books on his travels and wartime experiences.
