Born in England in 1810, Robert Dale arrived at the Swan River settlement in 1829. As assistant Government Surveyor he explored the area to the east of Perth, the York area and north of King George Sound. After being promoted to lieutenant he left Australia to serve with his regiment in India. His large engraving of a panoramic view of King George Sound is one of the earliest records of the area.
