Born in Sydney, Yve Close, studied life drawing at The Julian Ashton Art School and then at East Sydney Technical College. She was in her late 30s when she studied when ashe again followed her interest and studied portraiture at the Royal Art Society of NSW. She commenced working with Joshua Smith in 1975, painting portraits and murals and conducting classes in country areas of New South Wales. She held her first solo exhibition in 1980, with one or more exhibitions each year until 2007. She has been a finalist each year from 1973 -1985 in the Portia Geach National Portrait Competition. .After Joshua Smith died in 1995, Yve Close chronicled his career in "Joshua Smith Artist" published in 1999.
