Born in Footscay, Victoria in 1876, Cobb received guidance in drawing whilst in secondary school, and then Cobb enrolled in classes at the NGV School of Design in 1896. He went to South Africa in 1901 and fought in the Boer War, returning to Melbourne in 1905. He is best known as an etcher and watercolour artist. He produced over 200 historical plates of Melbourne and was commissioned to produce plates for the visit of the Prince of Wales to South Australia. He also produced hundreds of detailed anatomical drawings of Australian marsupials and reptiles. His works are represented in most major print collections.
