About Oscar Fristrom
Born in Sweden in 1856, Oscar Fristrom travelled to Australia in the 1890s and settled in Queensland. He worked in a photographic company, and gave private lessons in painting and photo retouching. He was one of the founders and later president of the Royal Queensland Art Society and also a Foundation The total number of works by Carl Fristrom offered for sale by auction since 1974 is 31, of which 20 (65%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $7,920 for Portrait of Nahmbo; Three Little Maids Of Queensland (3) sold by Sotheby's in October 1986. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2021. Works by Carl Fristrom are held by the Queensland Art Gallery.
