Born in England in 1929, Richard Larter studied at St Martin's School of Art and later at Pownbee Hall. After taking a course at Shoreditch Teachers Training College, Surrey, he worked as an art teacher. He arrived in Australia in 1962 and held his first Australian exhibition at the Watters Gallery, Sydney in 1945. He has won several awards and his work is represented in the National Collection, Canberra and in several state and regional galleries
