Paul Coney, well known New Zealand watercolorist, was originally born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1957, Paul moved with his family to Cambridge, New Zealand in 1962. After attending Cambridge Primary School and St Peter’s School, he moved to Auckland after gaining School Certificate and University Entrance. At the age of 20 he took up night classes in pencil portraiture, but soon became fascinated with painting, especially watercolor. His subject matter covers the spectrum from floral, figurative, landscape and seascape to still life, birds and animals, and he has exhibited in galleries throughout New Zealand and overseas. In 2008 he began working on large scale canvases in oil. It is a theme Coney continues to explore and develop. His work is held in private collections throughout the world, including USA, Canada, France, Hawaii, UK, China, Japan and Australia.
