Born in Melbourne in 1926, Milton Moon studied in Brisbane. A ceramic artist and teacher, he worked in radio and television from 1948 to 1962. After seven years as a pottery instructor in Brisbane he was appointed head of the Ceramics Department at the South Australian School of Art. In 1976 he became a full time ceramacist. Moon, who held the first exhibition of his work in 1959, has exhibited in most Australian capital cities and overseas. He has won a number of art awards and his work is represented in the Australian National Collection, most state galleries and regional, institutional and private collections. He died in Adealide in 2019.

The total number of works by Milton Moon offered for sale by auction since 1989 is 120, of which 97 (81%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,095 for Rare Exhibition Size Lava Decorated Floor Vase sold by Amanda Addams Auctions in February 2016. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Milton Moon are held by the Art Gallery of South Australia, National Gallery of Australia and a further seven major public national galleries (see list below).
