About Karl Wiebke
Born in Detmold, Germany in 1944, Karl-Wilhelm Wiebke studied in Hamburg prior to his arrival in Australia in 1981. He had exhibited in Germany in 1977 and 1980 prior to moving to Australia and had his first first Australian exhibition in 1983 at in Fremantle. He moved to Melbourne in 2001 and since then has exhibited regularly in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. In 2004 he was Artist in Residence at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, and in 2013 was Artist in Residence at the Australian National University, Canberra.
We have records of art auction sales by Karl Wiebke from 1997 and in total 36 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 26 (72%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $8,400 for 22 - 02 Yellow on Blue sold by Deutscher and Hackett in April 2009. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Karl Wiebke are held by the Art Gallery of Western Australia, National Gallery of Australia and National Gallery of Victoria.
