Born in Sydney in 1938, Dunlop studied art at the East Sydney Technical College and in southern Europe. His figurative paintings were exhibited in a solo exhibition in Sydney in 1962 and he continued exhibiting until 2006 in all the other Australian capital cities. He won a number of awards, including the Sulman Prize in 1980.
