Born in Copenhagen in 1911, Hansen has spent most of his life in Australia, including six years studying at the East Sydney Technical College. He was a Fellow of the Royal Art Society of NSW and a director of the Society's school. He held numerous solo exhibitons and participated in group exhibitions in all the Australian capital cities. In 1982 he won the Geo Styles award for Tradional Painting.
