The son of artist Frank Mutsaers, Gerard was born in Holland in 1947 and arrived in Australia as a child in 1952. No doubt with guidance from his father, but without any institutional art training, he started painting in 1974 and is a traditional landscape painter in a similar style to his father, and has become known for his natural style and faithful representation of the Australian bush, especially the Yarra Valley. Gerard has held numerous exhibitions throughout Melbourne and interstate, and is now based in Western Australia.

We have records of art auction sales by Gerard Mutsaers from 1976 and in total 144 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 92 (64%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,300 for Marysville Landscape sold by Leonard Joel in April 1990. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
