A New Zealand soldier in the 1860s, Henry Atcherley later took up watercolour painting. From 1877 he exhibited throughout New Zealand, and is believed to have travelled to Australia. His paintings were usually of Maori subjects, but sometimes of military operations.
We have records of art auction sales by Henry Atcherley from 1973 and in total 53 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 34 (64%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,894 for Maori Settlement sold by Webb's in September 1996. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Henry Atcherley are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Christchurch Art Gallery and Museum Of New Zealand.
