Born in Perth, W.A. in 1947, Piers Bateman moved to Eltham with his family in 1957. After completing local schooling he travelled to London in 1966 where he studied art with Arthur Boyd. An oil painter of landscapes, he held his first solo exhibition in Melbourne 1968 at the age of 20. He travelled and exhibited regularly in Australia and overseas.
