About Douglas Purnell
Douglas Purnell OAM was born in Sydney in 1946 and is an artist, author and theologian. He has worked in the studio of David Mercy in Melbourne and studied with Thomas George in Princeton who has become a lifelong mentor. he completed a doctorate that involved creating a series of paintings to be placed in a church space. For the years 2007-11 he curated a Stations of the Cross exhibition at St Ives Uniting Church, inviting leading Australian artists to create contemporary stations. He has had three residencies at the Centre for Arts and Religion in Washington DC in the USA and has also had residencies in Boston and Canberra. He has lived in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
