Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1961, Fiona Pardington is of Maori and Scottish ancestry. She studied at Elam School aand holds Doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Auckland. Best known for her photographic and mixed media works, she was the 1991/92 New Zealand Moet & Chandon fellow, was awarded the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship in both 1996 and 1997, and the Ngai Tahu residency at Otago Polytechnic in 2006 . In 2017 she was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
