Born in Germany in 1842, Walter Seehusen came to Victoria in c1864, leaving his wife and daughter i at the onset of the German-Danish war. He exhibited paintings of scenery and bush genre from 1880 to 1895 with the Victorian Academy of Arts, later renamed the Victorian Artists’ Society. He was the first art master at the Bairnsdale School of Mines in 1893.
