Born in Auckland in 1921, Agnes Wood studied at the University of Auckland Elam School of Fine Arts during the 1960s and was awarded a Master of Fine Arts. An abstract realist artist, she painted still life and figures. As well as being an artist, she was also a writer, and is known for her biography of Colin McCahon, The Man and Teacher. Colin McCahon was her tutor at Elam.
