Born in England in 1826, Charles Nettleton arrived in Melbourne in 1854. A prolific photographer of city, country town and bush scenes, he was commissioned by government to record views of the streets and public buildings of Melbourne. Nettleton's work was included in several publications and he is represented in the National Gallery of Australia and most state galleries.
