About Melville Haysom
Born in Melbourne in 1900, Melville Haysom studied at the National Gallery School. He moved to Queensland in 1929 where he was to become painting instructor at the Brisbane Central Technical College. A member of the Victorian Art Society and the Royal Queensland Art Society, he is known for his portraits and landscapes, often tending toward the more abstract in style. The earliest auction listing we have for Melville Haysom is in 1989 and in total 24 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 15 (63%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $6,380 for Rocky Coastline, Moreton Bay sold by Christies in June 1989.
