Born in South Australia in 1919, Douglas Roberts was a painter and teacher. A lecturer at the South Australian School of Art, he was a foundation member of the South Australian branch of the Contemporary Art Society. He won numerous provincial art awards and is represented in the national and several state collections.

The total number of works by Douglas Roberts offered for sale by auction since 1985 is 105, of which 60 (57%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $5,175 for Surrealist Landscape sold by Sotheby's in April 1998.
