Darren Siwes was born in Adelaide in 1968. He was awarded a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) in 1996 and a Graduate Diploma of Education in 1997, both from the University of South Australia. In 2002 he was awarded the Anne and Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship and he went on to obtain a Masters of Fine Art from the Chelsea School of Art in London, UK. A photographer, in 2007 he was awarded the Redlands Westpac Art Prize. He has exhibited in solo shows since 1996 in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne, and overseas in New York and Spain. His work has been included in group shows since 1994. He was lecturer in painting and drawing at Tauondi Aboriginal Art College from 1997 to 2001.
