About Blamire Young
Born in England in 1862, Young arrived in Australia in 1885 after studying in Britain. He is well known for his posters and watercolour Australian landscapes. He was a leader of the art nouveau movement, a style which he mastered in his early posters. He revisited England several times during his career and was greatly influenced by his contemporaries there.
W. Blamire Young is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1966 of 886, of which 659 (74%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $80,736 for VIIth Australian Light Horse Victorian Mounted Rifles, 1904; B. Battery. Royal Australian Field Artillery, 1904 (2) sold by Christies in September 2010. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by W.
