Born in Victoria in 1929, Elaine Burge studied at Ballarat School of Mines, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the Victorian Artists Society. She has exhibited widely in Victoria and has won several prizes, including the Sir Arthur Streeton Award in 1983 and Sunbury major art award. She has held solo exhibitions in Geelong and at her own gallery in Healesville, Victoria from 1980 to 1988.
