Born in Esperance, Western Australia in 1965 Kate Daw studied at Curtin University, at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), then started her MFA at the Glasgow School of Art. She was awarded the 1995 Anne and Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship, completing it at RMIT in 1977. She gained her PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2006 and after teaching at the University became Head of VCA Art at the Southbank campus. A teacher, painter, video and installation artist she exhibited nationally and internationally from 1992.
