Born in Lithuania in 1922 to well known sculptor Jouzas Zikaras, Joe Zikaras studied in Lithuania and taught drawing and sculpture in Germany before arriving in Australia in 1949. He was appointed lecturer in sculpture at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology from 1956. He exhibited mostly in Melbourne and received several commissions for his work.
