French born Rene D'Herbois studied art in Paris and had arrived in Perth, Western Australia by 1916. He taught at Claremont Teachers' College in the early 1920s, and exhibited (apparently for the first time) with the newly formed University Art Club in 1929. His work depicted Western Australian forest and semi-rural areas in the south west.

The total number of works by Rene D'Herbois offered for sale by auction since 1985 is 70, of which 46 (66%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,815 for Hills Landscape sold by GFL Fine Art in September 1995. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Rene D'Herbois are held by the National Gallery of Australia.
