Born in England in 1853, Collingridge was staff artist for the "Illustrated London News", "Graphic", "Le Monde Illustre" and "L'illustration" before coming to Australia in 1877. In Australia he contributed to the "Illustrated Sydney Mail". He was a trustee of the Art Gallery of NSW and an art teacher, and with his brother George founded the Art Society of NSW.
