Born in Melbourne in 1904, Nancy Kilgour moved to Sydney with her family in about 1917. She studied at the Julian Ashton Art School, and in 1931 married artist Jack Kilgour. The Kilgours went to England and became close friends of William Dobell. A painter and writer, Nancy Kilgour's nom-de-plume was Julia Barrett. In 1939 the Kilgours returned to Australia. Nancy continued her writing and painting, exhibiting regularly with her husband in Sydney.
