Born in 1947 in Christchurch, Maria Olsen studied at the Canterbury University School of Art. After working as a screen-printer for two years she spent two years from 1967 teaching art in Australia. Married to artist John Parry, she moved to Auckland in 1974 and began exhibiting her work regularly. She has travelled to USA, Europe and India. Olsen's work has ranged from drawing to painting and sculpture.
