Born in Sydney in 1911, Wilson studied at the Julian Ashton School and later in Europe. On his return to Australia in 1939 he painted many European village landscapes, taken from his sketch books. In 1943 he became one of the first abstract painters to gain acceptance with his painting, 'The Kitchen Stove'. Wilson taught art at the East Sydney Technical College until his untimely death a the age of 35.
