Born in Scotland in 1833, David Reid studied at the Lancastrian School in Edinburgh and later between 1880-1889 under A.J. Daplyn and Julian Ashton at the Art Society School, Sydney, NSW . He exhibited at the Royal Art Society in 1890 of which he was a member. He was an active member of the Sydney art scene from the mid 1880s to the early 1930s. His works are mainly mildly impressionistic pastoral watercolours of rivers in the Sydney region, and later in his career, some etchings.
