Born in Germany c1818, Conrad Wagner arrived in Sydney in the late 1850s. He set up a studio and worked as a painter and photographer in Grafton New South Wales from the 1860s to the 1870s and then moved to Glen Innes from 1870 to 1875. He was always more interested in painting than photography and created watercolours, pastels and oil paintings as well as painting over enlarged photographs. His speciality was posthumous portraits. He died in Sydney in 1910.

Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 2017.
