Born in England in 1961, Mark Howson arrived in Australia in 1969. He studied in Melbourne, but regards himself as mainly self-taught. Best known for his figurative painting, he is also a sculptor and makes jewellery from metals. He exhibited with ROAR studies from 1981, and has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne from 1988. He has received commissions for sculptures and murals from the Australian National Gallery.
We have records of art auction sales by Mark Howson from 1992 and in total 48 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 29 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,600 for Reclining Nude 2001 sold by Deutscher~Menzies in June 2004. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Mark Howson are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Geelong Gallery and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
