Born in Oamaru, north Otago, New Zealand in 1954, Peter Cleverley was awarded a Diploma of Fine & Applied Arts from the Dunedin School of Art in 1976. After travelling and working in the mid 1970s, he taught at secondary level from 1985 to 1997, and in 1998 was appointed lecturer in painting and drawing at Dunedin School of Art, a position he held for 26 years. A painter working in oil, sculptor and printmaker he has exhibited throughout New Zealand. He was won Artists in Residence awards in 2005 and 2009.
