About Frank Le Compte
Born in Belgium in 1917, Frank Le Compte studied for five years at the Academy of Fine Art in Antwerp (1933-1947), tutored by Baron Isadore Opsomer, the court portrait painter for the Belgian Royal Family. After emigrating to Australia, (year unknown) he began teaching in Albury, New South Wales in 1970. A traditional painter in oil and watercolours, and a portraitist, he held his first solo exhibition in Melbourne in 1975. He had solo exhibitions in Albury, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and occasionally returned to Antwerp to hold exhibitions. He died in 2009 at the age of 92, six months after staging his final exhibition of landscape paintings in Wodonga.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1994.
