Born in Port Lincoln SA, Vic had seen plenty of Australia by an early age. At the age of ten he moved to Alice Springs, where he completed his schooling. His family then moved to Berri, NSW where he lived for 25 years. He didn't begin painting until 1983, when as a result of a car accident he was unable to do manual work. A self-taught artist, many of his paintings are based on experiences he had whilst in outback Australia, including vivid memories of swimming after paddle steamers to catch a lift, and catching catfish to sell to the local hotel.
