Born in the United Kingdom in 1940, Johnston studied art in the UK and Switzerland, before going to live in Rhodesia for some years. She eventually moved to Western Australia where she married Perth artist, William Boissevain. She has exhibited her modern landscapes in Perth and has won a number of art prizes.
