Born in Nelson, New Zealand in 1946, Jane Evans studied at the University of Canterbury and Waltham Forest School of Art in London. A painter and illustrator, her career and life was cut short by a chronic inflammatory disorder that affected her for the rest of her life. In 1997, the day after her 50th birthday, she was made Officer of New Zealand Order of Merit for services to painting.
