A New Zealand artist, David Hutton was born in 1866. He studied under his father, D C Hutton at the Dunedin School of Art, and later in Europe. He worked as both a high school art teacher and architect, exhibiting his paintings from 1891. Hutton died in 1946.

The total number of works by David Hutton offered for sale by auction since 1991 is 52, of which 35 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $13,306 for Regatta, Upper Dunedin Harbour sold by Webb's in December 2001.
