Born in Alexandra Victoria in 1930, Daryl Hill studied at the Hobart Technical College, East Sydney Technical College from 1951 to 1952. He travelled to Europe in 1953 and studied at the Academie Ranson in Paris, and in 1954 worked as an assistant to Henry Moore in London. He returned to Australia in 1959. He has taught at secondary level in New South Wales and Tasmania. A painter, photographer, film maker and writer, he has exhibited in London, Paris, Barcelona and since the 1960s in Australian capital cities. Amongst his awards are the New Vision Prize in London in 1958, and the Robin Hood Watercolour Prize in Sydney in 1961.
