Born in Melbourne in 1964 James Smeaton was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Chisholm Institute of Technology (now Monash University), Melbourne. He has exhibited in regular solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney since 1990 and group exhibitions since 1983. A restrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery in 2009.
