Born in Sydney in 1931, Hermia Boyd (nee Lloyd Jones) studied privately with Joy Ewart and later at the East Sydney Technical College under Lyndon Dadswell. While still at the college she worked part-time at the Martin Boyd pottery. An accomplished etcher, set designer and painter, it is as a sculptor and potter that she is best known. Married to David Boyd, she worked with her husband to become the major pottery makers of the 1960s.
