Born in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton in 1929, Kath Ballard studied at the Swinburne Technical College from 1946 to 1949. She worked in the advertising industry as a graphic artist and became a director of the company. She married fellow artist, Stan Ballard in 1956. Her first solo exhibition was in 1962 and since then she has held over 50 shows. She was a member of the Victorian Artist's Society, the Australian Guild of Realist Artists, the Old Watercolour Society's Club and President of the Malvern Arts Society from 1986 to 1988.

We have records of art auction sales by Kathlyn Ballard from 1976 and in total 112 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 79 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,200 for Bouquet on Blue (1981) sold by Leonard Joel in April 1993. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
